Air Filter

Work Done:
Cleaned air filter.

Notes:
Should be cleaned again in 3 months (December '06). This made a major difference in how the car was running, and I'll be damned if I keep screwing up this kind of basic maintenance.

Cost: $0

Oil change

Work Done:
Replaced all oil with Valvoline 60-weight racing oil (!), 2 quarts.

Notes:
Trying to be nice since, apparently, I'd let my car run dry of oil. Will have to check the oil light since it didn't come on. Over-filled it, but Ernest says it should be OK. Still have an extra pint for later.

Cost: $11.97

Fuel float, bright switch

Work Done:
(1) Installed new fuel float, but broke the stupid gauge while adjusting it. Might just replace the whole thing for $20 at Chirco, but in the meantime my boss kindly gave me a clock hand to use as a fuel gauge needle. I think my new gas tank's size (it's slightly smaller than stock) may be causing problems.

(2) Installed brights switch by myself - most likely incorrectly. Will have to experiment to get it right. Hopefully Rachel will have some patience for me ...

Notes:
Ernest and I went in together buying an old '64 hulk together - he took the frame and I got a fuel sender, brights switch, and double bumper.

Cost:
$25 (for the bumper)
$0 (for the rest)

Ran out of gas, tuneup

Work Done:
Replaced gas (gauge wasn't working and it ran out), tightened battery cables, set dwell and timing, changed oil.

Notes:
I am such a moron. Especially given that I didn't have my car for the entire summer on something this stupid - running out of gas and not thinking of checking it, despite knowing my gauge is always screwing up.

Cost:
$104

New engine, transaxle

Work Done:
Replaced engine with dual port 1600cc. Kept the old alternator, carbeurator, and fuel pump. Replaced stock transmission with a '67 swing axle transmission from a Type 3, which has a wider wheel base. Repaired the front transmission mount.

Notes:
Had wrecked the old transmission towing the truck off of I-10 when it crapped out. This is a real shame since so many people had learned to drive stick on that tranny (myself, my wife, my aunt, Mom, and uncle). Since we had to replace the transmission, we replaced the original 1200 engine with a larger 1600cc. My original engine eventually went to Tasha's Bug.

Cost:
$1050 (Engine $600, transmission $100, labor $300, tax $50)
(pd. $100 2/2, $600 2/11, $150 2/18, $50 2/25, $150 3/1)
